Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park sits just north of Marietta. It covers over 2,900 acres and draws more than 1.8 million visitors each year, according to the National Park Service. Most people hike the main Kennesaw Mountain Trail. But locals know about quieter, lesser-used paths that offer peace, shade, and great views.
We asked Luis Perez, owner of Vilchis Tree Services Pro of Marietta, about his favorite hidden trails. He and his crew often work near the mountain and use these trails to relax and recharge.
1. Environmental Trail
Location: Off Stilesboro Road, near the park visitor center.
Length: 0.5 miles
Trail Type: Loop
This trail is short but rich in nature. It includes signs that explain plants and wildlife. Few people hike this loop, so it stays quiet.
Luis says, “This is where I go if I want to think. It’s peaceful and close to the parking lot.”
2. Kolb Farm East Trail
Location: Near Cheatham Hill Road, starts at the Kolb Farm Loop Trail.
Length: 1.3 miles
Trail Type: Connector
This trail moves through dense woods and links to other paths. It has fewer steep climbs than the main trail and is shaded most of the way.
Park data shows this trail receives about half the foot traffic of the nearby Cheatham Hill Trail.
Luis says, “It’s great for a quiet walk after work. We take our lunch there sometimes.”
3. New Salem Church Trail
Location: Entry from Burnt Hickory Road
Length: 1.4 miles
Trail Type: Out and back
This trail leads to a Civil War site and crosses part of the battlefield. It’s mostly flat, with forest and meadow views. Many visitors overlook it.
Luis shared, “This trail is full of history. It feels different from the others. I bring my kids here to learn and walk.”
4. Brumby Trail
Location: Starts at Cheatham Hill Loop
Length: 3 miles
Trail Type: Out and back
The Brumby Trail runs through wooded areas and past stone walls. It connects with the Brumby House and offers less crowding than the main ridge trails.
A Friends of Kennesaw Mountain report lists this trail as one of the least used, despite its scenic route.
Luis adds, “It’s longer, but worth it. You feel like you’re far from the city.”
